Jains are prohibited from consuming root vegetables such as potatoes, garlic, onions, carrots, radishes, cassava, sweet potatoes, turnips, etc., as the plant needed to be killed in the process of accessing these prior to their end of life cycle. In addition, the root vegetables interact with soil and therefore contain far more micro-organisms than other vegetables. Also, the root vegetables themselves are composed of infinite smaller organisms, hence, consuming these vegetables would mean killing all those organisms as well. However, they consume rhizomes such as dried turmeric and dried ginger. Eggplants, pumpkins, etc. are also not consumed by some Jains owing to the large number of seeds in the vegetable, as a seed is a form of life. However, tomatoes are consumed normally as its seeds are difficult to be killed (even at high temperatures/pressures). Mushrooms, fungus and yeasts are forbidden because they are parasites, grow in non-hygienic environments and may harbor other life forms. Jains are also not supposed to consume food left overnight because of contamination by microbes. Most Jain recipes substitute potato with plantain.
when every individual is suffering illness due to not taking his diets/meals/ foods in proper way. in proper time, in proper quantity and what to eat or not. our body is mostly effected by our diets, and mind, thoughts, emotions and behaviors. we have seen that a person who is vegetarian and taking his diets in proper time, quantity and in proper way so he remains healthy, fit and wise ,it indicates that the diets have major roles in our lives. if we are not taking meal in proper time, quantity and eating unwanted items so he suffers first acidity, indigestion, constipation and if irregularities continue then peptic ulcers, piles, liver disorders and it is the beginning of heart, kidney, cancer and digestive system diseases.
it is also want to mention clearly if you are vegetarian so less chances, and if you are non vegetarians, like meats, fishes, chickens, eggs are taking so the chances are more. because due to delay in digestion. we are not for non veges so it is ideal way if you want to live long with healthy and peaceful manner so adopt the vegetrainism in your life with proper time, quantity and healthy easily digestible foods. at present due to nonveges, liquors, drug addications crime rates increased with rates of diseases, like incurable diseases are more prevelent. we are paying money for the saving of life with pains. due to your illness , yourself, family, relatives, society, nation suffers and we are only wasting our time, money energy and food.

really it is very concerned issue raised by Thomas and Gary. if we see the K F C, MC DONALD products and how they are obtaining the meat, chickens, eggs so no kind and soft hearten human being able to eat and suggest to eat their products. it is a matter of great concerned that what we are eating, how they are preparing, in which cast we are paying and what are the advantages . they are pouring us unwanted ,harmful items and we are eating and inviting many incurable diseases knowingly. first of all THEY ARE KILLERS, CRIMINALS. FIRST THEY PUNISHED AND WE SHOULD BOY COTT THEIR PRODUCTS.it is the need of hour to adopt vegetarianism and be vegetarian.
health and non violence both are correlated and reciprocally dependent and independent. health is based on non violence, in fact the non appearance of attachment and other passions is non-violence (ahimsa) and their appearance in violence (himsa).
these days people argue about meat -eating on he ground that vegetable has life like cow, sheep etc; therefore if he advocates of non violence do not see any harm in eating the vegetables, in the like manner eatig of meat of adog or a hog cannot be objected , diet does not come in the way of non violence,
it is to be noted that the above argument is fallacious. man should use his finer sense to decide his course of conduct e.g. mother is a woman. wife is also a woman. womanhood is common to both; but civilized people and even barbarians in their behavior observe the difference between and wife. similarly vegetables should not be treated on par with meat. like wise health is totally depends on our life style.
my sincere advises to all players of the universe , those are participating in the Olympic . it is the best period for them to give up meat, beef, pork, chickens, eggs liquors and in place of these please adopt vegetarianism, vegetables, fruits,dry fruits, milk and other nutritious diets. these diets are more energetics, spiritualistic, healthy and without side effects. you will enjoy at present and also in future. you will be set free from doping tests and will enjoy life long.
