THE TERM AURA according to Ayurveda aura is known as OJAS. , has been used in Indian system of medicines for a substance which prevents decay and degeneration of the body. it is the SARA (essence) of all dhatus (TISSUES). while supporting the body it provides strength against disease and decay.the qualities and functions of ojas are similar to slesma. in the classics of Indian medicines the term ojas not only stands for slesma but also for the rasa nad rakta (blood)
egading the types of ojas aare two types 1 PARA 2 APARA.as stated by the CHARAK the quantity of slasmika ojas is ardhanjali. similarly the para ojas is eight bindus (drops). the location of para ojas is the hradya (heart) while the apara ojas is located in ten dhamanis (arteries)originated from the heart.
Charaka described the colour of slesmika ojas os white, slightly redish or yellow like the colour of GHEE. it is sweet in taste like honey and has a particular smell.according to SUSRUTA ojas is watery, viscous, clear white and cold. it is responsible for the promoting the stability of the body. it is soft slimy and it is the essence of the all dhatus of the body.ojas is permeated in the entire body and the loss of the ojas from the body leads to wasting, decay and destruction.
according to CHARAKA the das maha mula dhamanis are the channels of transort of ojas to the entire body. Charaka has mentioned the function of ojas. the slesmika ojas is mainly responsible for the protection of biological strength . it also provides strength to the various organs of the body. it is also responsible for the protection of the body against disease, decay and degeneration . it also provides natural resistence against diseases. Chakrapani has mentioned the chief function of ojas as vyadhi ksamitva(natural resistence against disease.)
