meaning of pilgrimages

in JAINISM  a truth (Sanskrit teerth ford  a shallow part of a body of water that may be easily crossed) is used  to refer both to pilgrimage sites as well as to the four section of the Sangha the teerth provides the inspiration to enable one to cross over the worldly engagement to the site of NIRVANA (SALVATION)
there are 4 types of teerth- 1NIRVAN KSHETRA- THE PLACE  from where the teerthankaras attained salvation.2 SIDHA KSHETRA - the places where MUNI/ MUNIS attended salvation.3 KALYANAK KSHETRA - THE PLACE FROM WHERE THE TEERTHANKARAS ASSUMED GARBHA, BIRTH, DEEKSHA, GYAN. 4 ATISHAYA KSHETRA - EXCAVATION OR FROM THE EARTH FOLLOWED BY DIFFERENT MIRACLES.
the pilgrimages are the places where we can do introspection, self realization and we can also learn the life of concerned as well as the futility of the world, self. we know that to know your own self. what are the causes of miseries and how we over come with them.previously the pilgrimages approaches were very difficult but to day by means of transportation, vehicles luxury residences, high classes hotel and places of picnic and excursion they are places of entertainments.we know you can not devote full time in meditations so entertainments are essentials. but we should learn some things and followed them in our lives.
