the word dharama is very meaningful.some times we used to say HINDU, MUSLIM, CHRIST, JAIN, SIKHS etc are dharamas but my point of view they are the philosophy, hindu, jain, budhdham sikha etc are the philosophies.as you have mentioned that the dhrama word is derived dhri means up holds. every word has two senses. one as NIRUKTA AND OTHER IS VACHYA. DHARTEETI DHARAMAH which leads us a dharma. mundanity travel in 4 lives like NARAK, TRIYANCHA, DEV AND MANUSHYA GATIYAS.in these gaties there are mental, physical and forth coming pains. by means of dharama we can get peace and salvation and will be set free from all bondage's,
